PRESS RELEASES
On the 12th November 2008 Marc Koska OBE, will lead a team to India to deliver a message like never before. The Government of India say that over 65% of all injections given in their country are unsafe, meaning they are performed with reused or unsterile equipment. SafePoint offers a solution to this problem, it informs the next generation, raising awareness about this silent epidemic – Its’ focus is on injection safety aiming to educate people ensuring that all medical injections given each year are given safely. SafePoint not only educate from grass roots level, but use short public information films to ensure that distribution of the message is more widely spread.
The Indian campaign is built around a specially created film ‘Sachin’, written and filmed for India, and is a story working backwards of a little boy who contracted HIV through the reuse of a syringe.
The SafePoint team will arrive in Delhi together, de-brief and then travel to their first destination:
- A team headed by Marc will visit Dellhi, Pune, Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai
- A second team, headed by Paul Mallins - an independent expert in World Health, they will travel to Hydrabad, Kochi and Bangalore.
- Two other teams, headed by Jim Barker and James Mansfield, both CEO’s of commercial companies, and dedicated supporters of SafePoint, will cover Jaipur, Patna, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Indore and Ahmedabad.
Once the four teams are in place at their first destination they will simultaneously hold press conferences at noon each day starting on the 14th November – India’s National Children’s Day.
SafePoint will claim to be the biggest media buyer over India during this week, in covering an incredible 14 hours prime TV broadcast time across 23 channels, as well as radio broadcasts from Dr Kiran Bedi spanning 180 cities playing 56 times in each and, 183 Cinemas will show ‘Sachin” 4 screenings per day per cinema. In total it is thought that 600 million Indians will be directly exposed to the SafePoint message.
Marc will deliver the last press conference in Mumbai on Wednesday 19th November, and the whole SafePoint team will join him. All media will be recorded, with statistics being sent out on a daily basis on the number of people informed and even when the team arrive back in East Sussex the message will continue to be delivered. This will be a world record, no-one to our knowledge has ever tried to educate a whole country before – SafePoint will be delivering a groundbreaking campaign.
The ex-president of India lends his support for the campaign with his quote from October 2008 below:
"In India, we have to ensure that there is no occurrence of infection such as HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B&C due to the re-use of syringe[s] and the needle."............Dr Abdul Kalam 15.10.08

DELHI PRESS CONFERENCE:
When kicking off the campaign in Delhi on Friday 14th - Marc Koska (SafePoint founder) was joined by VIP guests Dr. Kiran Bedi (possibly the most popular woman in India today) as well as Dr. N.K. Arora - a medical specialist who gave statistical facts on the broad problem of injection safety in India (300,000 children die in India each year as a result of the re-use of syringes). The re-use of medical syringes is a widespread problem with estimates that, on average, each syringe is re-used seven times - adding enormously to the potential spread of disease such as Hepatitis B & C and HIV.
Marc Koska explained that SafePoint was here to educate & enlighten the population of India through a Safe Injection message communicated via a broad media blitz across the country consisting of TV, Cinema & Radio broadcasts regarding one's right to receive a safe injection - safe healthcare being a basic human right for each & every human being per the United Nations - Declaration of Human Rights.
