Tanzania Update

An amazing - £9694.10 has been raised from 'The Climb' Tanzania – thank you to the Kili Mums and everyone who donated to their climb.

With the new Health Minister and his team in place Marc met with the newly appointed Deputy, the Hon Dr Lucy Nkya MP on the 31st January.  Armed with alarming undercover footage of syringe re-use, the Hon Dr Lucy whole-heartedly agreed that such re-use needs to stop and confirmed an extensive Safe Injection campaign would need to be rolled out throughout Tanzania. 

With a tentative date of May 2011, the Ministry are busy working on arrangements with the TFDA (Tanzania Food and Drug Authority) to procure ISO standard AD syringes and will carry out a full assessment of current syringe stock levels. Meanwhile, SafePoint are working hard on their public information campaign and a further meeting with all relevant authorities in Tanzania is scheduled to take place early April - this is when a decision will be made on how best and where to supply our donation of AD syringes.
